Excel Training With 3-D Graphs

Some more Excel Training Tips for you.  One thing I love doing in Microsoft Excel is creating good looking, attractive graphs to display the data I have been working hard on producing.  (Did I just say hard on?!)

Moving on, Excel will give you the opportunity to make some really nice looking data visually for whoever decides to view it, could be your boss, could be your mom.  Either way Excel makes it look pretty.

With regards to 3-d graphs, this is done rather simply,  You need to follow some steps to make it happen but they are pretty straightforward none the less.

All you really need to do is creat a graph like you would regularly and just hit the 3-D view button in the menu where you create the charts.  Its that simple!

Now if you have created the chart correctly you will see all your data looking amazing compared to a regular old Excel spreadsheet.

Oh another thing, I have booked myself in for an Excel training course next month.  Its the advanced class, I wasn’t sure If I would be learning anything new but I managed to get it for free he-he so I cant complain.  I will let you know how I get on and if I do find something new, you know the first place I will be telling people about it, yup, right here on my blog!

Later guys and thanks for reading.

How To Control The Sorting Order

You may already understand how to sort your data in Excel worksheets by now, then again you may not.  One way to do this is by using the button at the top of your Excel screen.  You can see that it is arranged in either 0-9 or A-Z.

This function is great as it can easily arranged huge amounts of data into your own prefered way of viewing things.  Want to know what number of times you had a transaction on a Sunday?  Hit the sort button.  Want to find out how much money was spent in outsourcing this month?  Hit the sort button.

This data would have been unavailable back in the day, but now thanks to Microsoft Excel, we can obtain this information quickly without any hassle what so ever.

I will be posting again shortly on another fantastic tip for you, make sure you check it out!

The Auto Sum Feature in Microsoft Excel

The auto sum feature

This is one of my favourite and most used button on the excel interface.  Basically it does an automatic sum for the cells you have selected.

Say you have a list of numbers in there hundreds, if you were to manually calculate a list that big it could potentially take you ages, not only that but you could make a mistake in the calculation process and that will unfortunately lead you to having to start all over again!

Thankfully Microsoft’s Excel program gives you the function to select these lists of data and will automatically calculate the sum for you, hence the name “auto sum”.

One of the other features of this function is that it actually allows you not only to add, but it allows you to multiply, dived and take an average of the data.

This can be very useful in companies when they need to create data reports and time is an issue.  What would have taken hours, now takes minutes and is 100% functional.  This is one of the hundreds of reasons that Microsoft Excel is the successful program that it is.

Microsoft Office

If you are not already aware, Microsoft office is a software application created by Microsoft that aims to help businesses operated in a more functional manner.  It does this by automating some tasks from the daily routine there fore giving you more time to do what you need to do.

There are a few different programs within the package, most notably Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.  These two programs have become really popular over the past few years and have spawned countless other similar programs that hope to take their crown.

With that said the software programs found within MS office are still the market leaders and ever other software company is still playing catchup in terms of user interface and functionality.

Excel Training Tips For Advanced Users

Hi guys and girls

This site will be hoping to teach everyone that visits it, some tips and secrets using Microsoft Excel.  Sure you use the software every day but I have challenged myself to find you some Excel training tips that is sure to give you that “ah!” moment.  Who knows you may even start using these secrets everyday from now on.

As with most software programs these days, Excel comes with thousands of features and things it can do.  It can help you with your business or it can tell you how much pocket money you have left if you go to the cinema with your friends.

Not only that but the advanced tips I will be showing will allow you to create your own excel formulas and macros to utilise every last ounce of technical ability you have!

First of all this site isn’t for people who are just grasping the basics of Excel.  I want you to have a good experience of using the software and you should be a seasoned pro at some of the jargon to be found here.  I wont be slowed down by any newbies (sorry but I’m sure there are many other sites helping you with basic Excel training.

A little bit about your Excel Trainer

My name is Jack Sourby and I am a fourth grade teacher by profession and in my spare time I freelance teaching business people skills in IT.  Mainly application skills such as the programs found in the MS Office suite but I have also been know to do some .net training too.

The reason I have started this site is to show you that there is probably allot that you don’t know about excel even if you think you are fairly advanced in its workings.  If there is anything on this site you wish to discuss then please use the comment system, I will gladly answer as many questions as possible on whatever subject we cover here.

I am also open to suggestions on what topic we cover and what version we use.  I prefer the new Excel 2007 version but I am aware that I am in the minority with this.  If you would prefer me to concentrate my efforts for the 2003 version that’s no problem.

You should however take into account that the next version of Excel will no doubt be more like the 2007 version so its a good idea to get to frips with that if we have the chance.

All in all I think we will learn allot, myself included but the important thing is that we have fun as we learn and if we can share a joke with each other as we go along then I’m all the happier for it.  Please stay tuned for the first Excel training tip I will be giving, I hope to see you then.
